Love to be the one buying the Plymouth! You’re a great dude Austin and imma treat it right!
Thanks for the kind words! I love to see it going to a great home.
What part of SC are you in? I have an 85 Turbo Z and I live in Myrtle Beach.
Nice! I live in Charleston
I had one of those. I got it from my dad. One too many times on the back of a flat bed tow truck. Had to get rid of it. Sad day. But that's what I get for not being a mechanic.
They were certainly not the most reliable vehicles of all time!
@TheMoparGarage cooling issues lots of rust. And my dad tweeked the frame hitting a dear. It was still kinda fun. Lot of respect from old schoolers.
I had an 87 dodge daytona had trouble with the waist gate on opening at first but finally got it straighten out, that car would rip for a 4 banger, tour up some v8s all the time wish I would have kept it,I saw 1 parked a while ago behind a house probably one of project cars that will sit and rot away.😢
You hate to see the old ones sitting! They’re very cool cars for sure.
I bought a white '86 new and loved it. Some truck hit me and totaled it 😞
Damn, hate to hear that!!
Watch and learn from this guy: Lake Speed Jr.
Thats nit a Shelby. Daytona furst Shelby was in 1997, last 1991. They have new vacuum harness still available on ebay for about $50. Keep it stock, so many are butchered up. Those vacuum logs look horrible. I made a complete vacuum harness using high temp oem lines but each line was sleeved with a black high temo fiberglass protector sleeve.
I love this channel it’s helped me figure out how to improve my 01 dodge ram 1500 so much its definitely coming together a lot more due to this channel
Thanks for watching man, glad to help!
I’m only like few minutes in on this video and soon I heard “there’s a pick and pull down the road “ my first thought was boy how my financial life would hate me
😂😂😂
Leave the wheels dude….. they are nice
I’ve just never been a 20” guy!
Sounds great. Love the color
Thanks! Was a nice surprise when it already had an exhaust on it
How many cans of the perfect match did it take?
Ive got a 2000 318 5 speed short bed. Had it for around 15 years. has close to 160k and ive only had a sensor and a wheel bearing go out. These things are solid. I go through vehicles like crazy when i get bored with them and this is the only one i can safely say i will never sell.
Agreed! They’ve got their flaws but they’re tough as a box or rocks.
The 318 is my favorite mopar engine. 4.0L is my secpnd favorite. My grandfather swore by the slant 6.
4.0 was a great engine! Pretty much invincible
My grandpas slant 6 has over 500,000 thousand miles on it! In an 84 d-150
@@keyseanmiller1794 the ole leaning tower of power! They’re pretty dang indestructible as well.
Hello Mopar, I am calling from Europe, the country of Serbia. I have a rare car Dodge chrysler voyager series 1. engine is gasoline 2.5. I change the head gasket and process the head. I also watched from you how the belt is toothed. I'm interested in how much the head tightens with a kilo wrench?
Thanks for watching man! In one of my recent videos, I finish the engine re-assembly and go over the torque pattern/sequence. It’s a 4 step process - first, tighten them to 45 ft. Pounds, then 65 ft. Pounds, then 65 ft pounds again, and then give them all 1/4 turn. It should end up at about 90 after the 1/4 turn. I’m not sure how that all translates to kilograms but Google could probably tell you. Good luck!
Do you know if the 99 5.2 with a 5speed but 2wd's are as rare?
The 2WD 5 speeds are a bit more common, but there are still many more automatics than 5 speeds out there.
did you check the IAT(Intake Air Temp sensor)? My 97 5.2 was idling rough in the mornings for about 30 seconds and the levels out and runs great for the rest of the day. Replaced everything like you did with no change. Changed the IAT sensor and it runs better in the morning. not perfect...but better.
This video was made a few years ago, I’ve done a lot of things since to try to get it to run right. Similar to yours, it’s still not 100% - but it is better than it was.
Hew no
Met you at Loma Linda resort last year, we had big plans of power tour this year but life got in the way and the car never got finished.. I take it you're not going either?
Man, what an awesome day that was!! My plans came apart too, neither car is ready. It’s a bummer, but there’s always next year I suppose.
My dad bought this car new in 86, same colors and all other than he had rear window luvers, from Panorama Dodge in Penfield NY. was a toss up between a 5.0 mustang, this or a monte carlo, I think he made the right choise. I drove it on my prom night, he told me, i'll know if you speed.
Haha that’s great! I think he made the right choice too. I really wish I’d had the opportunity to have one of these new.
I had the first ‘84 in my area, also black, loved it
Awesome! I wish I could have had one of these when they were new.
I really wish they didn't drop the small blocks for the 4.7, I know they did it for emissions but honestly the 4.7 wasn't nearly as good. On paper my 4.7 durango could tow 500lbs more than my old 5.2 dakota, but real world proved a lot different. My old dakota could climb the pass pulling 2 tons, albeit it'd get very hot, but on the same token my durango got just as hot on the same climb just pulling its own weight. I know the durango had a half ton curb weight over the dakota, but that's still 3k lbs tow difference. The 4.7 just didn't like being a workhorse, nor did it like good gas mileage, and my old 5.2 beat it in both regards.
Agreed!! Can’t beat the ole 5.2/5.9’s. Thanks for watching!
Old thread but I bet you changed the front sensor and problem solved?
It’s still not perfect, but it did seem to help. This thing has never been quite right but there’s nothing left to change haha
Just started seeing your videos pop up finally a Mopar guy let's hope you go somewhere not enough respect for dodges
Thanks for watching, I agree!!
Just found your channel because I found a 98 Club Cab thats been sitting for at least 5 years. Dont know much about it yet, but thinking I may have to take a closer look at it. Question about the rattle can paint. Could you go over that with a rubbing compound followed by a polishing compound with buffing wheels and get rid of a lot of the imperfections im the spray can paint job?
Thanks for watching man! The only way to get a paint job that can be buffed with a rattle can is to use what’s called 2K clear. It’s a 2 part system but if you use it, wear a full on respirator. It’s the real deal.
I'm a Chevy lover but I still love 1st and 2nd Dodge Ram trucks. And I agree with you, "Dodge" is what these beauties were known for. I only wish they still had the column shifter but I still love em!
Thanks man! I also wish they still had the column shifter!
Lmfao
Thanks for watching!
You are a funny dude, and you Gotter done, victory is always a good day!
Thanks brother!!
As a bodyman, if you have a valuable truck, or want to do a serious restoration, don't do anything you see here.
You’re 100% correct. The title of “$500 redneck restoration” does not signify anything of value.
The steering in my 99 second gen cummins is really tight since I put a new sector in it. I would love to find some lower control arms that actually have greaseable ball joints and arent made in china.
Interesting. The sector is the only part that isn’t brand new in the steering of this truck. The U joint in it still seemed tight but you never know!
@@TheMoparGarage Yeah mine was sloppy and the sector tightened it right up. I can one finger drive the truck pulling a cord of firewood in a trailer behind me. Got a gear box from redhead. Its a fairly common issue.
The commitment to reply to every comment is amazing keep up the good work
Appreciate the kind words man, thanks for watching!
Man I love this truck wish I would have ordered one new back in the day thanks for the ride also what great peaceful place.
This thing is definitely my favorite half ton configuration of all time. Thanks for watching Man!
Great video, very helpful and informative! Gonna come in handy for switching out my K-cars timing belt, tensioners, motor mounts, and seals. Thank you!!!
Thanks for watching!! Glad I could help someone out.
Please sell me that truck
Haha! This is one I may never sell 😬
Nice vid, Could we discuss a potential collaboration? How can I contact you?love your work! Could we discuss a potential collaboration? How can I contact you?
I had one just like yours in the early 2000s. I bought out of a feild for $100, rebuilt engine turbo everything, 9:1 compression, and ussually ran 18-20psi boost with adjustable boost vale and extra fuel injector, remapped ecu. Never dynoed it but, there wasn't a stock corvette, or built 4 banger in Tampa that could outrun it. Hold to yours I wish I could buy it. Mine had the authenticity plate signed by Carrol Shelby and #561 off his line. Great cars. God bless and be safe brother.
Sounds like an awesome build! I bet that thing ripped. Thanks for watching!
Howdy. Exhaust link?
Hey man! It’s just a Flowmaster 40 series muffler with no cat, my local muffler shop built it for me. I did a video a little ways back about it.
You jump around too much for me... cant seem to stay on the same project..
I have 3 projects going at the same time, I’m not going to work on just one…
I'm in SC also. What part are you in? I'm in Cheraw. I saw your custom plate. How long have you had it? I just got a custom plate earlier this year and it isn't the same. Mine looks like the new normal plate just with my custom letters....no more "nothing could be finer"
Heck yeah! I’m in the Charleston area. I got my plate in 2022 I believe. I didn’t know they changed the style, bummer!
@@TheMoparGarage yeah I had one years ago said like yours. The website still shows it but I was surprised when it came.
Stumbled across your channel you got some badass content. James Islander here. Checkin’ in
Small world! I appreciate that man!
Liked and subbed just for the courtesy timestamp
Haha thanks man! I try to do really short intros, and when I don’t, I try to put the ole timestamp.
Dude you are inspiring me to get to work. Looks rad
Thanks man! It’ll be worth it!
When I was a kid my mom had a 2.2 turbo2 package Shelby. For its time it was a C4 slayer all day every day.
Nice! These cars were faster than pretty much all the domestic V8 stuff, people forget.
Im really surprised you were outrunning C4's, did that include C4 zr1's?. I remember these cars and at the time I had a 1987 iroc 305TPI/speed. Stock I never had problems with outrunning these cars and they seemed to have nothing left after 120mph.
Everything broke - Sounds about like any given day around my place. Daytona is coming along nicely!
Haha thanks man! Good to hear from you, it’s been a bit quiet over in the world of project time garage!
Sorry, I just skipped ahead to the Plymouth and the Daytona.
I don’t blame you! They’re definitely the two coolest rigs
If everything goes well in 2 or 3 days days ill get my hands on a 99 extended cab 5.9 5 speed 4x4 I hope everything goes well. Supposedly only 120k miles
Nice! Fingers crossed for you!
@@TheMoparGarage Yeah i saw in your comments the 4x4 5 speed is hard to find. Ig if i get it im lucky
@@kevinmoncada5120 for sure, definitely not a lot of them around!
I owned an identical black 86 turbo z t-top. Only difference is the rims were silver not gold color. Traded it in for a car with an auto trans so my wife could drive it. I purchased a manual trans car within a year afterwards. Still regret trading in my Daytona. On a positive note, the manual car I bought was a 94 Integra GSR which I still own to this day.
A lot of people comment on my videos about how they regret selling their various turbo Dodges….A ‘94 Integra is nothing to sneeze at though, they’re getting pretty darn rare as well!
I would just manually adjust the idle on the Turbo Z
In lieu of the IAC? I was wondering if there was a way to do so!
@@TheMoparGarage Yes I have a log car outside. do u have an email I can send a pic or vid to?
@@thefinalroman thanks man, for sure! Austin.solaguren@gmail.com
@@TheMoparGarage just sent it
@@thefinalroman thanks man! Simple enough. I’ll unplug the IAC and see if we can dial it in manually.
You could try cleaning the idle air control motor or turning the key to accessory with the motor unbolted so you can see if you get any movement.
Great idea, I’ll do that before I order a new one.
